Climate Change Justice

Latest on the Climate Change Bill  The public hearings into the Climate Change Bill will wrap up this week after a final hearing with the Department of Agriculture, Water and the Environment and the Climate Change Authority. Submissions were overwhelmingly in support of the Bill and we now await the Chair’s report to Parliament.  We need to maintain the pressure on the Government to legislate NetZero by 2050. This Bill is the right way forward and provides a blueprint for what is needed. You can write to the Committee Chair Ted O’Brien and/or the Prime Minister asking for a full debate and vote on the Bill in the House of Representatives

Help deliver the #ClimateActNow
For Australia to adopt climate legislation, it is important that the Government continues to hear a strong voice from the people asking for the Bill. You can help by:

  • Writing to your federal MP, the Energy & Emissions Reduction Minister (Angus Taylor MP); the Environment Minister (Sussan Ley MP); or the Prime Minister expressing your desire for the adoption of stronger climate legislation, for the Bill to be debated and for MPs to be given a free ‘conscience’ vote. Remind them that you will only vote for a candidate committed to climate action at the next election.
  • Encourage as many people as possible to sign up their support for the Bill on the Climate Act Now website. We currently stand at over 95,000 signatories and it would send a strong message if we were to reach 100,000 before the report is presented.
